Classes · Reading, including phonics
Reading.
One-to-one sessions that turn reluctant or unsure readers into confident ones — starting with the sounds and letters for younger children, and building fluency, vocabulary and comprehension as they move through the school.
Six-week Reading package
One-to-one · Year 1 – Year 6
For children in Years 1 and 2, sessions are built around systematic phonics: recognising sounds, blending them into words and reading with growing independence, using decodable books matched to the sounds they know.
From Year 3 upwards, the focus shifts to fluency and understanding — reading with expression, widening vocabulary, and the comprehension skills of retrieving, inferring, predicting and summarising — always with real books at the centre rather than extracts on a worksheet.
The shape of a session
Every week
A short warm-up. Sounds and tricky words for younger children; vocabulary for older ones.
Reading together. Guided reading of a text chosen for your child, with time to talk about it.
Understanding. Questions and discussion that build comprehension, with a short piece of reading to enjoy at home each week.
How it operates
One-to-one, real books.
Each package runs over six weeks, with one hour-long session a week at £40 a session in person or £30 online. Your child receives a folder at the start containing the resources for the six weeks.
Sessions blend teacher-led reading with independent practice, and I will always tell you plainly how your child is getting on and what would help at home.
Prefer not to commit yet? Reading is also available as a single session.
